Family Name / Last Name: Anger
No. of characters: 5
Origin: France
Meaning: Could possibly designate a person from Angers, but it is in Normandy and Brittany that the name is the most common. In fact, this is in most cases a named person of Germanic origin, Ansgari (years = name + pagan deity gari = spear).

Some derive this name from hanger, a wooded declivity; but Aige, Ainger, Anger, Angler, Augier, Aunger and Aungier are rather from Anjou, a old province of France, whose capital was Angers. the name is derived from French and Germanic roots..my great grandfather came to Canada and then USA..he changed his name from Angier to Anger to get work as hiring folks with ethnic names and heritage was not popular..he was a mill wright by trade but was excellent carpenter and made musical instruments.. BTW, Kenneth Anger's real name is Kenneth Wilbur Anglemyer...and not a true Anger at all.
