This surname means "of Cirio Italy". It is often misspelled in historic records as Serio, Sirio, Cerio and the like, depending on the language/location the name was recorded in. For example: in Spanish-Texas, all 4 variations are used over time, often for a single person. I have traced family lineage back to the early 1700s in and around Nuevo Santander (now Tamaulipas, Coauhila, Nueve Leon and South Texas) all ancestors having some variation of the true surname: Cirio.
