Meaning:

Flahardy is the variant form of the O'Flaherty. Flaithbheartach, an Irish chieftain of the X century, acquired this designation, which signifies "lordly-deeded," for his prowess, and handed it down to his posterity. "This sept," says etymologist D'Alton, "were originally settled in the barony of Clare, county of Galway, whence in the XIII century they were driven to the western side of Lough Corrib, and were there styled Lords of Iar or western Connaught. On the islands of that water they had many castles, traces of some of which still remain."

Is variation of the Flaherty. Grandson of Flaithbheartach meaning "bright ruler".
