My Grandmother was an Isbister and there are still anumber of Isbisters in Orkney where I live. A local farmer who recently died informed me that all Isbisters are descended from four men who left the North Cape in Norway over a thousand years ago. This was probably passed down through his family. Also I was told by a Shetland Isbister that we " were probably related" because all Isbisters in Orkney, Shetland and the Fair Isle were of the same origins.
