Odo is a popular name in Nigeria especially in the southeastern part of Nigeria (Igbo's) meaning Peace, Wealth, Possessor of wealth. However centuries ago when people began to work in disharmony and refuses to pay tribute to the king and other levies as ordered by the king (Igwe) which caused rancour, disunity and chaos; some groups of men introduced a fierce masquerade in a bid to curtail the issue and named that masquerade Odo (meaning peace) to enforce the payment enthrone peace. This was how it started and at a stage it became an oracle with special interest on wiping peoples' tears and bringing peace in disorganized families. Families that have issues of childlessness then do approach odo (the great oracle) for the fruit of the womb. Any male child gotten through this process is usually named after odo for protection. This is the whole essence of the general misconception in Igbo land that odo means masquerade as against Peace,Wealth, Possessor of wealth...
