Family Name / Last Name: Ricord
No. of characters: 6
Origin: Unknown
Meaning: Her name is entered in the Alpes-Maritimes. Varientes: Ricort, Ricuort. Italian forms Ricordo, Ricordi. We find equivalent names ever in the Tarn and Rigord in Vaucluse. Hard to make sense with certainty. Occitan word "record" (= memory) can hardly explain the name. But there is also an adjective "record" designating a late lamb and, metaphorically, a child born to elderly parents, a solution which could be more appealing. Note that Record is attested as a personal name in 1148 in the cartulary of Saint Sernin. Finally, we will report that, in the early eighteenth century, Ricord is sometimes written Ricouard (qv), which is not necessarily a coincidence or a fantasy. See also Ricordel.
